Later, she studied Fine Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Fine Arts, and a PhD in Art Education. Working with mixed media, she creates site-specific sculptures and installations from recycled materials such as crate wood, old furniture, and recycled fabric. At the same time, she looks into local culture, history, society, and current events. Exploring topics like the city’s loss of craftsmanship and the regenerative art-making cycle, she represents the thoughts and views of ordinary people through dialogical installations.\u0026nbsp;\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp style=\"text-align:justify;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"background-color:white;color:#333333;\"\u003eJaffa Lam’s practice intentionally centres on collaborating with locals. That intentionality and her use of found and recycled materials manifests sculptures and installations addressing themes of labour, identity, and collectivity. She has worked closely with the \u003ci\u003eHong Kong Women Workers’ Association\u003c/i\u003e since 2009. They are a women’s collective of former garment factory workers. At her first European solo exhibition, she also provided commentary on Hong Kong’s social and political changes. Giving discarded clothes and abandoned trolleys an artistic second life is how she expresses her thoughts.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp style=\"text-align:justify;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"background-color:white;color:#333333;\"\u003eLam began filming her practice to expand the reach and impact of her social research. In the documentary series \u003ci\u003eInner Worlds\u003c/i\u003e, she can be seen sewing recycled umbrella fabric with the workers. ‘I try to talk to the workers and understand what their lives are like. I want to know why they’re here and how they work’. Sinds 2009 werkt ze nauw samen met de \u003ci\u003eHong Kong Women Workers' Association\u003c/i\u003e, een groepering van vrouwelijke voormalige kledingfabriekarbeiders. Ook in haar eerste solotentoonstelling op Europese bodem geeft ze commentaar bij de maatschappelijke en politieke veranderingen in Hongkong. Elle étudie ensuite au département des beaux-arts de l’Université chinoise de Hong Kong, où elle obtient une licence en arts, une maîtrise en beaux-arts et un diplôme de troisième cycle en éducation artistique. Grâce aux techniques mixtes, elle crée des sculptures et des installations in situ à partir de matériaux recyclés tels que du bois de caisse, de vieux meubles et des tissus recyclés. Elle exploite à la fois la culture locale, l’histoire, la société et l’actualité. À travers des sujets tels que la perte de l’artisanat dans la ville et la régénération du cycle de fabrication de l’art, elle présente les points de vue et les pensées des gens ordinaires à travers des installations dialogiques.\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp style=\"text-align:justify;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"background-color:white;color:#333333;\"\u003eLa collaboration avec les travailleurs locaux occupe une place centrale dans sa pratique. Depuis 2009, elle travaille en étroite collaboration avec la \u003ci\u003eHong Kong Women Workers' Association\u003c/i\u003e, un groupement d’anciennes ouvrières d’usines de textile. Par ailleurs, pour sa première exposition personnelle sur le sol européen, elle commente les changements sociaux et politiques à Hong Kong. La raison pour laquelle ils sont ici et la façon dont ils travaillent ». Nous nous faisons des amis et nous travaillons ensuite ensemble.
